Santiago is Chile’s capital and largest city and nestles in a valley surrounded by the snow-capped Andes and the Chilean Coast Range. Explore Plaza de Armas at the heart of the city’s old colonial district; home to two neoclassical landmarks: 1808 Palacio de la Real Audiencia with its Museo Histórico Nacional and the 18th-century Catedral Metropolitana. Culture fans can make a beeline for Centro Cultural Palacio La Moneda, Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes, Museo Chileno de Arte Precolombino, and Museo de la Memoria y los Derechos Humanos. Ride the aerial tramway to San Cristobal Hill to combine cityscape views with visits to the observatory, statue of the Blessed Virgin Mary, and amphitheatre. Castro (Isla Chiloe), Chile
Castro is located on Estero de Castro on the eastern coast of on Chile's Isla Chiloé. The city is famous for its palafritos - traditional wooden stilt houses - with many to be found on Fiordo de Castro bay in the Gamboa district; not forgetting the archipelago’s 60 wooden Chiloéan typology churches, 16 of which are UNESCO-listed sites including Nuestra Senora de Gracia Nercon, Iglesia de Chonchi, and also Iglesia de San Francisco on Plaza de Armas. See the ethnography and archaeological exhibits at Museo Regional de Castro or admire the plethora of modern art at Museo de Arte Moderno de Chiloé. Castro is also gateway to Chiloé National Park on the west coast of the island; which is special thanks to its Valdavian forest - a rainforest filled with beeches and endemic alerce trees.

Cruising Chilean Fjords
Chile’s southern Patagonian coast from Cape Horn to the Reloncavi Estuary features some of the most spectacular natural scenery on Earth. Think everything from glacial fjords, inlets, islands, and navigable channels, to vast temperate rainforests and snow-capped mountain peaks and you get the picture. Then there's the amazing sea life to catch sight of including thousands of Magellanic penguins, orcas, blue, grey and humpback whales, dolphins, and elephant seals. The snow-capped mountains and steep valleys offer a striking contrast to the otherwise very green area that is rich in wildlife.

Strait of Magellan & Punta Arenas, Chile
The Strait of Magellan is a 350-mile channel separating the mainland of South America from the large Isla Grande de Tierra del Fuego and connecting the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans. The strait is between two and 20 miles wide, and earned the nickname Dragon’s Tail among sailors. Keep your eyes peeled for Los Pinguinos National Monument - a sanctuary for protecting humpback whales - and also the Southern right whales that frequent the strait’s waters. There are 41 light signals in the strait, including the San Isidro Lighthouse and Evangelistas Lighthouse. Step ashore at Punta Arenas, the southern-most city in the world. Admire the unique harbour breakwater comprising two ship hulks, the Cavenga and the County of Peebles. The city's colonial history comes to life at Plaza de Armas, Pioneer Cemetery's magnificent tombs, and the opulent Braun-Menendez Mansion. Pay a visit to Nao Victoria Museum, Maggiorino Borgatello Museum, and Fort Bulnes national monument. Alternatively, take a full-day flight excursion to see the majestic peaks, picturesque lakes, and wildlife of the Torres del Paine National Park; or transfer by speedboat to circumnavigate Isla Magdalena before interacting with the Magellan penguin colony at Isla Marta.

When you think of Antarctica; images of boundless ice, towering icebergs, comedic penguins, and epic snowstorms are at the forefront of your imagination. However, vessels have changed and the level of safety on a journey to ‘The Great White Continent’ has increased immensely. Visit the 13 small rocky islets, submerged reefs, dramatic outcrops, and rugged pinnacles known as the Aitcho Islands; the small rocky peninsula of Almirante Brown deep within Paradise Bay; and the Polish Antarctic research station, Arktowski, established in 1977. Discover the prominent rocky headland, Bailey Head, on the island's south eastern side; the iron-rich volcanic rocks that form the beach cliffs at Brown Bluff; and Cuverville Island which is home to 13,000 gentoo penguins. Visit the geological wonder Deception Island; Devil Island to see the two hills that resemble devil's horns; and Elephant Island which resembles a formidable fortress. Port Stanley, Falkland Islands
Step ashore in Port Stanley, the capital of the Falkland Islands; located on the north-facing slope of East Falkland Island. Learn more about the 1982 Falklands War, maritime and natural history, and Antarctic heritage on a visit to the Historic Dockyard Museum. Stroll along the waterfront and admire the unique whalebone arch at the entrance to the 18th-century Christ Church Cathedral. No visit here would be complete without getting up close to the resident penguins; head to Gypsy Cove to see the colonies of Magellanic penguins, watch Gentoo penguins swimming at Bluff Cove, or visit the grey and white King penguins at Volunteer Point. Keep your camera handy as you may also catch sight of sea lions, elephant seals, dolphins, steamer ducks, black-browed albatrosses, and rock cormorants.

Montevideo, Uruguay’s capital city, sits alongside Montevideo Bay. Plaza de la Independencia is the main hub of the city and leads to the Ciudad Vieja old town with its colonial houses, art deco buildings, and fascinating landmarks such as Palacio Salvo and the Solis Theatre. Admire the international artworks and surrounding Japanese gardens at the Museum of Fine Arts - Juan Manuel Blanes. Climb up to Fortaleza del Cerro to enjoy panoramic views of the city and beyond.
