Puerto Plata is a city on the Dominican Republic's Atlantic north coast and best known for its sandy shores. The city's old colonial-era centre is dominated by the 16th-century Fortaleza San Felipe, a Spanish fortress that now houses historical and military artefacts. A great spot to swim with dolphins and sharks is Ocean World Adventure Park or Playa Dorada is a great family day out to soak up some sunshine and enjoy the seaside. Admire scenic views across Puerto Plata with a ride on the cable car or pay a visit to Damajaqua Cascades with its beautiful waterfall and canyoning adventures.
