Cruising into a New Year

Date posted: 06/01/20
We all know that the UK is famous for its New Year’s Eve celebrations…from the fireworks over the London skyline to the vibrant Hogmanay event in Edinburgh. But how do you fancy seeing in 2021 onboard a cruise ship or docked at one of the iconic destinations where the countdown to midnight and beyond is celebrated in unique style?

When the Christmas festivities are over and you’ve waved goodbye to the family, Christmas cake, and mince pies; can you imagine packing your case and getting ready to set sail on an end-of-year adventure to see in the New Year at sea or on ashore as you watch how other countries pull out all the stops to celebrate.

Step aboard your chosen cruise ship; which will be decked out in all its finery to set the scene for fun times and revelry as the festive season makes way for the new decade to come. The run up to the big event may comprise everything from live music and themed parties through to cocktail parties and adult and child-friendly activities.

You’ll hopefully start your final evening of the year with a Gala Dinner before enjoying a full programme of entertainment or hitting the dance floor as the clock ticks towards 12midnight and a toast to good health with a glass of bubbly. And in the wee small hours of the morning, there’s no need for a taxi home, of course; your cabin is just a few decks away for a good night’s sleep.

Wondering which destination to choose where you can join in the local celebrations? Perhaps spend New Year’s Eve at anchor on the Atlantic island of Madeira where Funchal’s fireworks are eye-catching and thrilling to say the least. Maybe spend New Year’s Eve watching the fireworks illuminate the night sky over Paris and the Eiffel Tower on a river cruise along the Seine.

Alternatively, be one of the first to see in the New Year on a cruise around New Zealand or why not jet away to Dubai for a sailing around Abu Dhabi and India? Or perhaps fly transatlantic to New York to island-hop around the Caribbean, wake up to sunny skies on New Year’s Day, before arriving back in the Big Apple to experience the January sales at Bloomingdale’s, Macy’s, and Sak’s Fifth Avenue.
