Today the ship drops anchor at the Portuguese island of Madeira. Nicknamed the 'floating garden' due to its lush flora and fauna, there is no place that typifies this more than Funchal's Botanical Gardens. Ride in the cable car up to Monte, before returning back down to the city in a traditional toboggan? Head to the east of the island to admire the views from Pico de Arieiro, or venture west to visit the picturesque village of Câmara del Lobos and the Cabo Girão Skywalk. Take a ferry to the neighbouring island of Porto Santo, a beach-lovers paradise, or take a baptism dive with sharks and tropical fish at Aquario da Madeira. For the ultimate treat, why not enjoy a traditional afternoon tea at the famous Belmond Reid's Palace Hotel in Funchal?

La Palma, Canary Islands
Today the ship drops anchor on the Canary Island of La Palma. This beautiful island is a UNESCO biosphere reserve thanks to its rugged, forested landscape dotted with volcanoes like Cumbre Vieja and Teneguia. Stroll around the narrow cobbled streets of wooden-balconied houses and mansions in the island's capital, Santa Cruz de la Palma. Uncover local history and culture at Museo Naval, Museo de la Seda, Museo Casa Roja, and Museo Insular. Explore the craft shops and see artisans at work in the town of Villa de Mazo. Pay a visit to Roque de Los Muchachos observatories to see the world's largest telescope - Gran Telescopio Canarias - and witness close-up views of the amazing night sky. Venture two kilometres north of Santa Cruz to discover the magical Santuario de la Virgen de las Nieves church. Take a trip inland to admire the huge crater covered in pine forests and waterfalls at Caldera de Taburiente National Park.

Tenerife is also known for its famous Carnaval de Santa Cruz with its spectacular parades, music, dancing, and colourful costumes. Siam Park is a Thai-themed water park packed with swimming pools, exhilarating slides, and plenty of family fun. Experience up-close encounters with gorillas, tigers, penguins, and other species at the landscaped Loro Park. Party animals can discover Playa de las Americas and its famed nightlife scene. Try your hand at windsurfing, kite surfing, or parasailing on El Medano Beach. The island’s capital, Santa Cruz, is home to Auditorio de Tenerife, Museum of Fine Arts, and Museum of Nature and Man. The UNESCO-listed colonial city of San Cristobal de la Laguna is well worth a visit too.

Gran Canaria, Canary Islands
The Canary island of Gran Canaria is famous for its black lava and white sand beaches; from bustling Playa del Ingles and Puerto Rico to quieter San Augustin and Puerto de Mogan. Surfing fans can make a beeline for Pozo Izquierdo for some great waves and adventurers can hike at the Jurassic-like Caldera de Bandama or climb up to Roque Nublo for 360-degree island vistas. The capital of La Palmas is a Mecca for duty-free shopping, its historic Vegueta old town, Las Canteras urban beach, and marine life at Poema del Mar; while the nearby Jardin Botanico Canario Viera y Clavijo is the perfect escape. The awe-inspiring Dunas de Maspalomas are a must-see sight or step back to pre-Hispanic times at Cueva Pintada Museum. Get up close to wildlife and see dolphins, turtles, seals, toucans, and orchids at Palmitos Park – the biggest zoological park in the Canary Islands - or swap seals for slides at Aqualand Maspalomas Water Park, a ten-minute ride away.

Meander through the Old Quarter and admire the 17th-century San Ginés Church with its bell tower and Mudéjar-style ceiling. Indulge in retail therapy at Centro Comercial Marina Lanzarote before relaxing with a lunch of paella or fresh fish overlooking Charco San Ginés. The beautiful golden sands of Playa de Reducto are the perfect place to spend a few hours sunbathing. Background
Ventura
Overview
Ventura is one of the largest cruise ships in the P&O Cruises fleet. Ventura is where you’ll find an incredible choice of facilities from bars, restaurants, a sports court, spa and theatre. Plus Ventura also has a number of exciting features that are exclusively hers. Ventura’s signature restaurant is The White Room by none other than Marco Pierre White himself. But there are also 11 other restaurants to tempt you including a tapas bar and restaurant, a stunning Asian restaurant and a choice of Club Dining - the same table at the same time each evening, and Freedom Dining - no fixed seating or dining times. Ventura is a highly entertaining cruise ship. A theatre with full production shows doubles as a cinema, she has two lounges for cabaret, tributes, comedy and dancing and even Metropolis, an amazing bar with a panoramic video wall brought to life by a different city skyline each evening. She also has great sports facilities, a well equipped gym and spa, a large sports court and 4 pools (one with a retractable roof). In fact, a Ventura cruise is very family-friendly. In addition to fantastic children’s clubs and a play area for under 2s, Noddy and Mr. Bump from the Mr. Men Show are regular visitors. She even has a 24 hour buffet restaurant so the only routines you need to keep are your own.
