Day 2
Valencia, Spain to Cruising by Benirras Beach at sunset
Situated on the east coast of Spain, Valencia blends history and culture with innovation and modernity. Although 4km from the port, the Plaza del Ayuntamiento is the central square and affords easy access to the city's many attractions. From the museums and art galleries to the famous cafes, bars and restaurants of Barrio del Carmen, there’s plenty of Spanish heritage to soak up in the old quarter of the city. At the other end of the spectrum, the City of Arts and Sciences is Valencia’s most prominent landmark and brings futuristic architecture and contemporary facilities to the heart of the city.
Day 3
Mahon, Spain
Mahon is the capital of the Balearic island of Menorca and sits on the island's east coast. Sail past old forts and picturesque islands and coves as you approach the sheltered natural harbour. Admire Fortaleza de La Mola at the harbour entrance and discover Menorca's unique history at Museu de Menorca. Meander through the old town streets to the spacious Plaza de Espana town square to admire the 18th-century neo-classical Iglesia del Carmen church and explore the traditional market. Sample the locally-produced gin at Xoriguer distillery or admire the local marine life on a glass-bottom boat tour.
Day 4
Propriano, France
The port at Propriano is just a stone’s throw away from shops and cafes on the French island of Corsica. Set around an ancient fishing harbour, Propriano is situated in the Valinco Gulf. The pleasant climate, coupled with incredible views of mountains and breath-taking coastlines, make it a popular tourist destination. Either side of the marina are sensational beaches, perfect for topping up your tan. Visit Sartene, a medieval village set on a mountain ridge with pretty cobbled streets.
Day 5
La Spezia, Italy
The port town of La Spezia is found in north-west Italy on the Ligurian coastline. Home to the country's largest naval base, La Spezia has a rich history and is an important cultural and commercial centre. You can enjoy the winding streets of its old town and relax in a trattoria before visiting the UNESCO World Heritage site of Cinque Terre — historic fishing villages dating from the medieval era. Discover sandy beaches and rocky coves, before visiting popular landmarks such as Castle of San Giorgio and the 13th-century Santa Maria Assunta church. Enjoy a selection of pasta and seafood dishes, local red and white wines, and cheese and salami platters at bistros and restaurants throughout and around La Spezia during your time here.
Day 6
At Sea
Day 7
Salerno, Italy to Cruising Amalfi Coast
The picturesque port city of Salerno overlooks the Gulf of Salerno in Italy's Campania region. Stroll along the tree-lined seafront promenade before meandering through Centro Storico where medieval churches rub shoulders with traditional trattorias, trendy wine bars, and chic boutiques. Get up close to the fauna and flora at Giardino della Minerva or enjoy a spot of culture at Museo Archeologico Provincal and Museo Pinacoteca Provincal. Step inside the impressive Duomo di Salerno or climb up to the mountain-top Castello di Arechi to enjoy far-reaching views.
Day 8
Naples, Italy
Naples on Italy's Amalfi Coast is your next port of call. Visit Piazza del Plebiscito to admire the Royal Palace, Galleria Umberto and San Carlo Theatre. Step inside the Duomo to view the Cappella di San Gennaro, the baptistery, and colourful frescoes and mosaics. Enjoy family-time at Acquario Della Stazione Zoological Di Napoli. Join a tour to the ruins of Pompeii, Mount Vesuvius and picturesque Sorrento and Positano. Or take a scenic boat trip to the beautiful island of Capri.
Day 9
Sorrento, Amalfi Coast
This stunning coastal town of Sorrento is situated in south-western Italy and faces the Bay of Naples on the Sorrentine Peninsula. Perched atop cliffs that separate the town from its busy marinas, it’s known for sweeping water views, buzzing bars, and delicious pizzas. Explore the narrow alleys of Piazza Tasso and gaze in awe at the 14th-century Chiesa di San Francesco or revel in the rich history at Museo Correale. Walk along the sandy stretch at Marina Grande harbour or visit the stunning natural phenomenon Vallone dei Mulini.
Day 10-11
Civitavecchia, Italy
Spend the day exploring the charming port of Civitavecchia and Rome — an ancient city filled with famous landmarks, distinct architecture and influential art. Visit Civitavecchia's main public square — Piazza Vittorio Emanuele II — and see the Baroque cathedral dedicated to St. Francis, before taking a seat in a pavement cafe for a taste of the local seafood. In Rome, enjoy a gladiator experience at the grand Colosseum, view the ancient ruins of the Roman Forum, and throw three coins in the Trevi Fountain. Pay a visit to the Vatican City — the home of the Catholic Church — and see St. Peter's Basilica, the Vatican Museums, and the Sistine Chapel with Michelangelo's ceiling.

Balmoral
Overview
Balmoral is named after the Scottish residence of the British Royal Family, and the Scottish theme runs throughout the main dining venues – the Ballindalloch, Avon and Spey – where guests can enjoy tantalising menus prepared by our expert chefs. Featuring 710 well-appointed rooms and suites and a selection of comfortable lounges, bars and inviting public areas, Balmoral provides guests with ample space in which to relax and share a memorable cruise experience with hundreds, not thousands, of fellow travellers. And, as Fred. Olsen’s guests have come to expect, there is always an array of superb entertainment on offer throughout the day, from lectures and hobby classes to live cabaret and comedians, ensuring you can make the most of your time on board. Balmoral is small enough to navigate size-restricted waterways such as the Kiel Canal, providing fantastic scenic cruising opportunities, and retains the warm, intimate and friendly atmosphere that the Fred. Olsen fleet is renowned for.

Food & Drink

Dining is an important part of your cruise with us and there is always plenty of variety for you to enjoy: Delicious five-course dining in our main restaurants; speciality Asian dining at our signature restaurants, Vasco and Colours and Tastes; our casual, self-serve dining experience with table-service drinks; and, on Bolette and Borealis, there’s a menu of light bites at the poolside during the day.

All of our food is freshly prepared on board, including our mouth-wateringly delicious homemade bread.

Our restaurant teams take great pride in the food they prepare for you and they love nothing more than to chat and share their passion with you.

And, of course, our warm and attentive waiting team are always on-hand to assist you.

Our on board dining experience

Each of the main restaurants on our ships are beautifully decorated, where we know you’ll enjoy sampling outstanding food created by our talented chefs, who take great pride in making tasty meals using fresh ingredients, and for our Treats of the Region, they’ll source local ingredients to prepare dishes that are popular in the destinations you’re visiting.

We have two dinner sittings, first sitting is at 6.00pm and second sitting is at 8.00pm*, which you request when you make your booking, and our Maitre’D is more than happy to meet with you to discuss any special dietary requirements you may have.

*Please note second sitting dining time in the main restaurants on embarkation day and on formal evenings will be at 8.15pm.

Our main restaurants are:

  • Balmoral | Ballindalloch, Avon & Spey Restaurants

Dining at our Speciality restaurants on each of our ships is a really special experience. Our talented chefs are passionate about producing superb dishes, made fresh to order, where each delicious mouthful is an explosion of flavour. Vasco (available on Bolette and Borealis) offers an authentic taste of Goa, where each menu has been created by our Goan chefs, and for a taste of Asian Fusion, Colours & Tastes offers an eclectic combination of flavours in an intimate dining setting.

Colours & Tastes - Our Colours & Tastes restaurant features a tempting variety of Asian Fusion dishes, from spiced grilled meats and seafood to gyozas, dim sum and sushi.

In surroundings as vibrant as the food itself, each dish is lovingly created by our expert chefs and designed to give you an authentic taste of the Orient – with signature dishes from Japan, Thailand, China and the Philippines.

Casual dining

Our casual, self-serve dining experience on Bolette, Borealis and Balmoral offer a feast of delicious dishes for each meal every day, making it incredibly difficult to know which appetising dish to choose! Entertainment

Beyond our Signature Experiences, there is so much more to enjoy while you are on board with us.

Once on board, you will find a copy of the Daily Times in your cabin every evening. This will tell you all about the activities and events available on the following day. But in the meantime, here is a taste of what you can enjoy...

FUN AND GAMES, QUIZZES AND PUZZLES

To ensure there’s always something stimulating and fun for your time on board, our entertainment team run a fabulous programme of activities every single day.

These include traditional deck games like Quoits, Deck Tennis and Shuffleboard as well as challenging quizzes, Bridge tournaments in our dedicated Card Room and puzzles you can solve with fellow guests.

Or, perhaps join our friendly Book Club, held in an inviting, sociable area, where you can openly and informally debate your thoughts and opinions on best-selling lighter reads, crime thrillers, traditional or contemporary classics with other like-minded guests.

THEATRE, MUSIC AND DANCE

Each of our three beautiful ships has its own Theatre Company, who proudly present live musical shows for our guests.

Our Companies are regularly joined by visiting professional artists and performers, comedians and illusionists to ensure a constantly varying programme.

No cruise experience is complete, of course, without live music and each of our ships has its own house band. We also bring classical musicians, bands, soloists and singers on board to create a wonderful programme of live music, performances and recitals.

For those who love to dance, we hold plenty of classes. Our Dance Hosts are on-hand to accompany the more proficient or teach steps for those keen to learn.

Health & Fitness

What better environments to find total relaxation in than the beautiful spas on all three of our ships?

Floor to ceiling windows offer unparalleled views of the blue skies and cobalt waters while you are pampered and cared for by our specialist beauticians, hair stylists and therapists.

Our Fitness Centres also claim some of the most spectacular views of any gyms in the world – views that are constantly changing, of course. The perfect setting for a good workout, yoga or pilates session.

And once you’ve finished your activity, how about relaxing and unwinding in our swimming pools and Jacuzzis.

Kids & Teens

Children of 6 months and over are very welcome on our ships. On peak-time holiday cruises, our Little Skippers Club keeps kids between 5 and 11 years old entertained with a variety of fun activities. They will enjoy arts and crafts, discos, treasure hunts and loads more, all run by our friendly team of hosts and hostesses*.

A list of the day's events are included in the Little Skippers Club's mini-version of the Daily Times, which also shows the separate pool times for kids. Activities also stretch across the evenings, to suit the individual needs of families on board. Please note: our Little Skippers Club also welcomes children under 5, however parents must provide supervision at all times. The club operates subject to minimum numbers being achieved.

**Please note we will not be operating any Little Skippers clubs aboard our Welcome Back sailings this summer. This is because cruising restart guidelines require all guests, including children, to remain in their household or dining bubbles on board.
