Palma sits on the south coast of Balearic island of Majorca and is the island's capital city. The streets of this vibrant port city are lined with an eclectic mix of restaurants, bars, galleries, shops, and heritage buildings. Explore the narrow alleys and lanes of the old town, before spending time at the impressive Palma Cathedral. Indulge in retail therapy on Avenida Jaume III, Passeig de Born, and the streets around the Placa Major. Palma Aquarium, Bellver Castle and the Joan Miro Foundation are well worth a visit, too. The dolphin, sea lion and parrot shows at Marineland and Poble Espanyol — a collection of Spain's famous buildings in miniature — are great for family times. Or why not take a scenic train ride to the town of Soller or travel inland to the Caves of Drach?

Ajaccio, Corsica
Ajaccio is a jewel on any Mediterranean cruise, one of the easiest destinations to navigate on foot, and one of the most characteristic ports you can see. Around the harbour, you can find a bustling world of French and Italian influence, with traditional Mediterranean restaurants and local artists on every street corner. Visit the ancestral home of French Emperor Napoléon Bonaparte and see the 16th-century Notre-Dame cathedral which is home to paintings by Delacroix and Tintoretto.
5
Civitavecchia (for Rome), Italy
Spend the day exploring the charming port of Civitavecchia and Rome — an ancient city filled with famous landmarks, distinct architecture and influential art. Visit Civitavecchia's main public square — Piazza Vittorio Emanuele II — and see the Baroque cathedral dedicated to St. Francis, before taking a seat in a pavement cafe for a taste of the local seafood. In Rome, enjoy a gladiator experience at the grand Colosseum, view the ancient ruins of the Roman Forum, and throw three coins in the Trevi Fountain. Pay a visit to the Vatican City — the home of the Catholic Church — and see St. Peter's Basilica, the Vatican Museums, and the Sistine Chapel with Michelangelo's ceiling.
6
Livorno (for Florence and Pisa), Italy
Livorno — Tuscany's second-largest city — is home to one of Italy's largest cruise ports. The city's main Terrazza Mascagni square with its grand pavement and seafront promenade is a common meeting place for locals looking to relax. The 16th-century Old Fortress faces the harbour and sits at the entrance to the canal-lined Venezia district. Enjoy gourmet dishes and sample local seafood, which is said to be the best on the Tyrrhenian Coast. Head to Central Piazza Cavour or the car-free Via Ricasoli for shopping, try Via Magenta and pick up some quirky souvenirs, or stop by Via dei Pensieri's street market for a great selection of food, clothing, accessories, and homewares. If you're looking to travel further afield, Pisa is just a short drive away.
7
Sanremo, Italy
Step ashore today in romantic San Remo in the shadow of the Alps on the Italian Riviera. San Remo was founded in the Roman times and was also once the favourite holiday destination of the likes of Tchaikovsky, Monet, and Sir Laurence Olivier. Nowadays, the town is a popular setting for festivals and boasts beautiful churches such as Baroque Santa Maria degli Angeli and the 19th-century Russian Orthodox Church. The yacht-lined harbour, the elegant Edwardian Casino Sanremo, and gorgeous beaches attract the crowds. Stroll along the promenade, explore the shops, and visit the picturesque hillside old quarter of La Pigna - home to Regina Elena Gardens and the 17th-century sanctuary of La Madonna della Costa.

Barcelona, Spain
Barcelona is one of the most famous cities in the world. Located between the gleaming Mediterranean Sea and the Serra de Collserola hills, this cosmopolitan Spanish city is known for its diverse art and architecture. Walk the iconic Las Ramblas promenade and see quirky street entertainers or stop for a coffee at a pavement cafe. View some of Antoni Gaudi's most famous works including the Sagrada Família Church and the mosaic wall in Park Güell. Background
Marella Discovery 2
Overview
In summer 2017, Marella Discovery 2 joined our fleet. Marella Discovery 2 is the sister ship to Marella Discovery – and this is why their names are so similar. Having two ships means you’re able to pair a wider choice of itineraries with the exciting features offered by this larger, more contemporary style of vessel. These include an outdoor cinema, a rock climbing wall, a minigolf course, an indoor pool and a glossy atrium. Not to mention the range of bars, excellent dining scene and night-time shows enhanced by up-to-the-minute technology. Just like Marella Discovery, Marella Discovery 2 is All Inclusive as standard. So, drinks, including prosecco and cider, meals in a selection of restaurants and most onboard activities are included in the cruise price. Flights and tips are both part of the package, too.

Food & Drink

There are eight restaurants to choose from. There’s full waiter service at the main restaurant, which serves up traditional dishes with a modern twist. Plus, there are eateries specialising in a particular cuisine – think succulent steak or pan-Asian fare. There’s plenty of choice in the way of drinking spots, as well, whether you’re looking for a pot of tea or a flute of prosecco.

The dress code – The onboard dress code varies for each restaurant, but you can easily break it down into Beachwear, Casual and Smart.

The first is a come-as-you-are affair, so bikinis and trunks get the thumbs up, but please wear something on your feet for safety reasons.

Casual, meanwhile, speaks for itself – we’re talking tops and shorts or a sundress. Then you’ve got Smart, which is when you’ll need to dress up a little bit. You can wear shirts or polo shirts, trousers or tailored shorts, skirts or dresses, smart trainers, shoes or sandals, but we ask that you leave sportswear, flip-flops and non-tailored shorts in your cabin. If you want to add a jacket or a tie, that’s completely up to you, but our dress to impress nights give you the chance to get really suited and booted.

Entertainment

With so many entertainment options, no night onboard’s the same as the last. The Broadway Show Lounge delivers on West-End style numbers. Then there’s Squid & Anchor, which plays host to family-friendly game shows and pub quizzes. Movies by Moonlight takes over out on deck, while live musicians showcase the acoustics in the Atrium Bar. As the night draws to a close, head to the Live Room for a session on the dancefloor.

Health & Fitness

Chilled-out days onboard are spent getting pampered at the spa or lounging by one of the two pools – both come with built-in whirlpools, too. For something more active, you can aim for a hole in one on the minigolf course or reach for the sky on the rock climbing wall.

Kids & Teens

Little sailors are well catered for onboard the Marella Discovery fleet. When it comes to cabins, you can choose from family-sized options to inter-connecting cabins. It’s the same story when it comes to the food offering, our buffets feature fussy-eater-friendly picks like pizzas and spaghetti bolognese. The activity set-up, meanwhile, includes the likes of table tennis and football tournaments, quizzes and early evening shows during sea days. Elsewhere, toddlers and babies have their own toys, games and activities to get involved with at the M Club and the Baby Centre. Our range of shore excursions are also suited for families travelling with youngsters and teens – expect things like organised visits to waterparks and beaches, as well as once-in-a-lifetime experiences like swimming with stingrays. Kids aged 10 and over can also take part in our cycling tours, where you’ll follow an experienced guide on a route that ticks off some of the area’s must-see sights. We operate these tours out of most of the ports we visit.
