Day 3

Florence/Pisa (Livorno), Italy

The Italian port of Livorno gives you access to both Florence and Pisa. Florence is the capital of the Tuscany region and the centre of Italian Renaissance. Explore Italy's greatest artistic treasures; Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore and Piazza Duomo with its world famous dome. No visit would be complete without stopping by the Uffizi Gallery and admiring the panoramic views of Florence from the 19th-century Pizzale Michelangelo. Pisa is most famous for its iconic leaning tower and is a must on any to-see list. Take a tour around the five-aisled Romanesque Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta and the nearby Baptistery. Pay a visit to Campo Santo (Sacred Field), Museo Nazionale, and Palazzo dei Cavalieri.

Rome (Civitavecchia), Italy

The capital of Italy, Rome, is a sprawling city cosmopolitan city brimming with globally-influential art, architecture, and culture. The three-tiered Roman Colosseum amphitheatre offers fascinating tours of ancient history. The late Renaissance St Peter's Basilica was crafted by Michelangelo and other architects and is a must-see. The crystal blue waters and sculptures of Trevi Fountain will leave you mesmerised. The Roman Forum is the excavated heart of the Roman Empire and provides an insight of age-old times. Vatican Museums are home to Renaissance art treasures and feature the Sistine Chapel frescoes. Take a walk down the famous Spanish Steps. Pay a visit to the bustling Piazza Navona with its Fontana dei Quattro Fiumi, Fontana del Moro, and Fontana del Nettuno fountains, exquisite bars, and talented street artists.

Salerno, Italy

The picturesque port city of Salerno overlooks the Gulf of Salerno in Italy's Campania region. Stroll along the tree-lined seafront promenade before meandering through Centro Storico where medieval churches rub shoulders with traditional trattorias, trendy wine bars, and chic boutiques. Get up close to the fauna and flora at Giardino della Minerva or enjoy a spot of culture at Museo Archeologico Provincal and Museo Pinacoteca Provincal. Step inside the impressive Duomo di Salerno or climb up to the mountain-top Castello di Arechi to enjoy far-reaching views.

Day 6

Messina (Sicily), Italy

The gateway to Mount Etna, Messina, is the third-largest port in Sicily. This city — which was used to film part of the film 'The Godfather' — is famous for its museums and architectural beauty. Drive up the side of nearby Mount Etna on a day trip or wander around the many shops along Messina's wide boulevards to look at Sicilian pottery and art pieces. Black volcanic glass from Mount Etna features heavily in Sicilian jewellery and makes a great souvenir. Visit Norman Messina Cathedral to see its beautiful, 15th-century windows and astronomical clock tower, before walking by the stunning marble fountains — Fontana di Orione and Neptune Fountain — which are decorated with mythical creatures and gods. Make sure to dine on locally-inspired swordfish, pasta and pizza dishes complemented by rich Sicilian wine at a trattoria during your time here, too.

Valletta, Malta

Malta's small capital city — Valletta — sits within the city's original walls on a hillside and is known for its old churches, palaces and museums. Formerly ruled by the French, Italians, Spanish, and British; this UNESCO World Heritage site is filled with more than 300 historical monuments — making it one of the most concentrated historic areas in the world! Stroll through the narrow cobblestone streets of its old town district and see the famous Maltese-decorated balconies. Among a variety of churches, you can discover St. John's Co-Cathedral — one of Malta's biggest tourist attractions — with its striking interior decor and painting of John the Baptist by Caravaggio.

Day 8

La Goulette, Tunisia

La Goulette is the main port of Tunis, the capital of Tunisia. Discover the 1535 Kasbah fortress here, built by Charles I of Spain who was captured by the Ottonman Turks in 1574. Uncover the archaeological remains of ancient Carthaginian city Byra or wander Carthage National Museum which showcases fascinating statues and pottery from nearby excavations. Attend a concert in the 19th-century church Acropolium of Carthage or head to Lake of Tunis - a beautiful natural lagoon that was once the natural harbour of Tunis. Take pictures of the Roman Carthage Amphitheatre, rebuilt by Dictator Julius, and take time to explore Zitouna Mosque while you capture photos of the medina with the city's twinkling lights in the background.

Palma (Majorca), Spain

Palma sits on the south coast of Balearic island of Majorca and is the island's capital city. The streets of this vibrant port city are lined with an eclectic mix of restaurants, bars, galleries, shops, and heritage buildings. Explore the narrow alleys and lanes of the old town, before spending time at the impressive Palma Cathedral. Indulge in retail therapy on Avenida Jaume III, Passeig de Born, and the streets around the Placa Major. Palma Aquarium, Bellver Castle and the Joan Miro Foundation are well worth a visit, too. The dolphin, sea lion and parrot shows at Marineland and Poble Espanyol — a collection of Spain's famous buildings in miniature — are great for family times. Or why not take a scenic train ride to the town of Soller or travel inland to the Caves of Drach?
