Koblenz, Germany
The ancient city of Koblenz is located in central Germany and is the gateway to the castles and vineyards of the Rhine Gorge. Kinderdijk, Netherlands
The UNESCO World Heritage village of Kinderdijk sits on the River Noord between Rotterdam and Dordrecht and is famous for its iconic 18th-century windmills. The ingenious water management system in Kinderdijk encompasses nineteen windmills, three pumping stations and countless dykes and reservoirs, all of which work together to prevent flooding in the surrounding low-lying land (polder). The 17th-century Windmill 2 in the Nederwaard is open to visitors and there is also a Visitors' Centre at the Wisboom Pumping Station. The best way to explore this amazing place is by bike or on foot along the trails that crisscross the area or on one of the boat tours on the canal.
