Arrecife de Lanzarote, Spain
Today the ship drops anchor at Arrecife, the capital of the Canarian island of Lanzarote. Two splendid castles form the backdrop to the harbour - the 15th-century Castillo San Gabriel and 17th-century Castillo San Jose. Meander through the Old Quarter and admire the 17th-century San Ginés Church with its bell tower and Mudéjar-style ceiling. Indulge in retail therapy at Centro Comercial Marina Lanzarote before relaxing with a lunch of paella or fresh fish overlooking Charco San Ginés. Tenerife is the largest of the Canary Islands. The island is dominated by the dormant volcano Mount Teide; hop on a cable car to marvel at the views or take a hike along the trail. The Canary island of Gran Canaria is famous for its black lava and white sand beaches; from bustling Playa del Ingles and Puerto Rico to quieter San Augustin and Puerto de Mogan. Surfing fans can make a beeline for Pozo Izquierdo for some great waves and adventurers can hike at the Jurassic-like Caldera de Bandama or climb up to Roque Nublo for 360-degree island vistas.
